While the Cupertino-based tech giant rolls out practical on-device features, experts and Apple fans are baffled by Apple’s decision to delay the long-awaited Siri revamp until 2026.
Apple Intelligence was the WWDC’s centerpiece. It’s a suite of capabilities spanning Apple devices.

Visual Intelligence also received an upgrade. This update enables users to Google search. They can tap ChatGPT, too. Moreover, users can identify events and objects on screen using Apple’s rich screenshot gesture-based insights.

Apple Watch’s Workout Buddy should be an instant hit among fitness enthusiasts. It’s an AI-driven coach that provides motivational coaching during exercise. It also summarizes performance milestones post-workout
Apple also repackaged Image Playground and Genmoji with robust integrated ChatGPT support. This enables users to generate stylized emojis and visuals (like making a cartoon avatar for social media) directly within Messages and Notes.

Apple’s shift to enable third-party developer access to its on-device large-language model underpins these updates. They promise privacy-focused AI that operates even offline. It extends to Shortcuts to empower creators to build intelligent workflows in their apps with Apple Intelligence API.
Complementing the new AI suite is a sweeping interface refresh named “Liquid Glass”, unifying visuals across various Apple operating systems. It emphasizes fluid transparency and consistency throughout Apple’s ecosystem.
Unfortunately, Apple deferred the full Siri overhaul. Senior Apple execs confirmed that the AI-enhanced Siri (originally expected this year) has been postponed to 2026.
The delay was significant enough to shave $75 billion off Apple’s market value and triggered concern over falling behind rivals like Google and OpenAI.
Analysts praised Apple’s integration and privacy-first AI. Its ecosystem links also received accolades. However, they questioned whether these updates would reignite a strong iPhone upgrade cycle.
While Apple’s deliberate, privacy-centered approach draws praise, critics warn that a prolonged nascent pace in Siri innovation could widen the AI intelligence gap with competitors.
Apple is betting on thoughtful execution, with public betas arriving in July and official releases slated for fall 2025.
Unfortunately, Siri’s deferment and Apple’s slow-burn AI roadmap could undermine Apple’s momentum toward 2026.
